Bantwal: A man from Hassan was arrested on June 11 on accusations of breaking into a house, sexually harassing a lone woman, and issuing death threats.

The police have arrested Pramod, an auto-rickshaw driver from Belur, Hassan, in connection with the case and presented him in court.

The victim, a resident of Bondala near Kalladka, filed a complaint with the Bantwal Town Police Station. Originally from Belur in Hassan taluk, the woman had been married off to Amtoor near Kalladka.

Pramod, who was an auto-rickshaw driver in Hassan, had allegedly become acquainted with the woman as she had used his rickshaw a couple of times to visit her maternal home. During these trips, Pramod had obtained her mobile number.

Pramod allegedly harassed the woman over the phone and recently visited the victim when she was at her husband’s house in Kalladka. During his visit, he not only harassed her but also damaged several valuable items in the house, the complaint says.

However, Pramod reportedly returned to Bantwal from Hassan, and this time, he broke into the woman’s house when her husband was not at home. He tried to sexually assault her by grabbing her, the complaint adds.

The woman screamed, which alerted her husband, who was at a nearby temple, and he came to her rescue. During this confrontation, Pramod reportedly verbally abused the woman with obscene language and threatened to kill her family including her child.

Based on the complaint filed by the woman, the Bantwal Town Police arrested Pramod and presented him in court.
