Bantwal: Police arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly posing a death threat to an Imam of a mosque at Mithabail near B C Road Kaikamba.
The incident took place on March 1 night when the accused Babu Poojary was found loitering near the mosque after parking his two-wheeler nearby. He then entered the mosque but was stopped by the Imam and questioned the purpose of his visit. Poojary allegedly told him that he would murder him.
Upon arresting Poojary and inspecting his bike police found a knife in his possession. Poojary was later produced before a court and remanded him to judicial custody. Meanwhile, police also extended protection to the mosque to avoid any untoward situation.
Police have been urged to probe the case to check if the said incident was aimed at creating a disturbance in society. Meanwhile SDPI Bantwal unit has urged people to maintain peace and harmony.
