Bantwal: On World Water Day, Mangaluru Mayor Premananda Shetty reminded the city residents to use water sparingly.
On the banks of the Nethravati river, the Mangaluru Mayor offered Bagina and performed other rituals. The river is the chief source of water supply for the city.
“The water supply to the city will be a challenge for the MCC (Mangaluru City Corporation) as the demand for drinking water is likely to increase during the next two months,” the mayor said commenting on the water availability.
“The demand is likely to rise in the months of April and May this year as the industrial activity has resumed. For the last two years, we did not face water shortages on account of reduced demand due to Covid pandemic-induced lockdowns,” he added.
Water for up to 2 months usage has been stored, he said, but cautioned the city residents to be mindful of how they use the precious water.
