Bantwal: A car, in which a newlywed couple was travelling, crashed on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway near Talapady in Bantwal, on Saturday, September 7. The incident claimed the life of the wife, while the husband sustained severe injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Manasa, wife of Anish Krishna, a resident of Odyadgaya near Perne. Anish, who was critically injured, has been admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.

The couple was travelling towards Mangaluru in their Alto car when the vehicle lost control, veered off the road, jumped the divider, and collided with a KSRTC bus coming from the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that the car was completely damaged, and Manasa, who was the passenger, died on the spot.

Traffic on the highway was disrupted for a while following the accident.

It is gathered that the couple had gotten married on September 5 at the Denthadka temple. The accident occurred when they were returning after visiting the temple to settle some post-wedding matters.

It is reported that both the husband and wife were employed at a private company in Mangaluru.

Melkar Traffic Police visited the scene and registered a case.
