Bantwal: Police arrest absconding accused in gas cylinder theft case

Police have successfully arrested a man who had been evading court appearances after being convicted in a gas cylinder theft case within the Bantwal Town Police Station limits.
The arrested individual, Shareef C. Abbas, was apprehended by the police and presented before the court which sentenced him to one year in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000.
Shareef had been convicted in a case of gas cylinder theft from a gas agency in B.C. Road around 22 years ago. However, he had been absconding and failed to appear in court for the past 14 years.
Acting on a tip-off, the police, under the guidance of Bantwal Town Police Inspector T. Padmanabha, led by PSI Ramakrishna arrested him in Baikampady.
