Bantwal: Locals protested in front of the Bantwal Municipal Office, demanding the implementation of a court order for evicting unauthorized shops at Melkar.
The protestors also alleged that the council was delaying the matter unnecessarily despite a court order.
During the protests, the protesters had locked the council building. After police intervened and told them about the illegality of locking a government building, the protesters agreed to remove the locks. But they demanded the Assistant Commissioner visit the spot and listen to their grievances.
Sachin Melkar, who led the protests, accused the municipal corporation of not obeying the court order. The issue is being delayed unnecessarily, he said.
Mangaluru Assistant Commissioner Madan Mohan C, arrived at the protest site and listened to the protestors’ complaints. He reviewed court orders and also had talks with lawyers arguing about the case. The protest was later abandoned.
