Bantwal: A midnight raid to bust an illegal sand mining site was conducted by Batwal taluk’s tehsildar Rashmi SR along with forest officials.
The raid was conducted at the foot of the old bridge at Panemangalore.
The accused operating the sand mining equipments escaped during the raid leaving all the equipments including a tipper truck and a boat.
The Deputy Commissioner had banned sand mining near the old bridge due to safety concerns. When complaints were received that sand mining is still being conducted there, a secret raid was planned.
Further investigation into the seized assets is now underway.
Tehsildar Rashmi SR had earlier too raided and prosecuted several cases of illegal sand mining.
