Bantwal: Thumbe Dam is almost full following moderate rainfall from past two days in Dakshina Kannada district.
It was said that if pre-monsoon rains would not appear till May end, there may be some problems. But as there was moderate to heavy rains in the city, the dam is now full which has proven to be a huge relief to the people of Mangaluru
Naresh Shenoy, Assistant executive engineer of the city corporation, said that Thumbe dam now has 5.50 metres of water, which he said will be sufficient for the city through for 45 days without any fresh inflow.
Also, the sluice gates will be opened one by one to prevent any garbage and waste items from entering the dam. It is said that if the dam water reaches the maximum, all the gates will be opened.
Earlier, in March the level of dam was six metres and with improved inflow at the Thumbe vented dam, the city did not face water shortage even during summer season.
