Bantwal: Truck knocks down scooter; rider killed

Bantwal: A man died on the spot when a truck rear-ended the scooter he was riding at Kanduru in Sajipa Munnur village on Saturday evening.

The deceased, identified as Ram Naik (47), was a resident of Kalayi in Amtady village.

Ram Naik was travelling on his scooter from B.C. Road to Mudipu for personal work when the truck, allegedly driven at high speed and recklessly, hit him from behind.

The impact threw Ram Naik onto the road, causing a severe head injury and heavy bleeding. Witnesses said his body lay in the middle of the road for about half an hour until the police arrived.

The police then transported his body to the Bantwal Government Hospital.

Ram Naik had been working as a manager at the Indian Oil Petroleum Pump on the Bantwal Bypass for many years. He was known as a dedicated worker with a good relationship with customers.

Melkar Traffic Sub-Inspector Sutesh visited the accident site and registered a case.
