Bantwal: Two persons including a teenager drowned at the artificial pond created at a stone quarry here in Narikombu of Bantwal Taluk on Friday.

Local resident Jagadish (45), and Nidhish (17) from Allipade reportedly went for a swim in the water at the pond but they drowned in the murky waters. Their mortal remains were later fished out.

It is gathered that Nidhish, a PUC student at a private college in BC road was visiting his sister’s house Narikombu when the mishap took place.

The twin drawings at the artificial pond invited the locals’ ire. Locals alleged that illegal quarries have been operating without fear despite repeated complaints to the district administration about the illegal activities.

There were flash protests at the site against the administration and the protestors were adamant about not letting the police take the bodies before DC and the Tahsildar visit the spot.

Bantwal police later pacified the crowd and registered a complaint about the incident.
