Bantwal: A young woman, who was seriously injured after being hit by a car while walking on the roadside, tragically passed away in the early hours of December 29.

The accident occurred around 8 PM  near Pachinakda near B.C. Road. The victim, Chaitra (22), a local resident, was returning home with her mother after finishing work.

Chaitra, the daughter of renowned makeup artist D. Bhaskar Acharya, was working at a popular clothing store in Mangaluru.

According to the victim’s family, she had reportedly taken leave to attend a wedding function and was walking with her mother when the accident happened.

While walking by the roadside with her mother, a ‘speeding and recklessly driven’ Swift car struck Chaitra. The impact was severe, leading to severe injuries. She was swiftly taken to a private hospital in Mangalore by traffic police officers Suresh Padar and H.C. Ramesh, who were passing by in an official vehicle.

Despite receiving immediate medical attention at the emergency department, the doctors informed the police around 1 AM on Friday about her unfortunate demise.

The car, after hitting the pedestrian, lost control and collided with an electric pole nearby, causing damage to the compound wall of a house, locals said.

The car driver and two other passengers escaped unhurt. They were reportedly heading towards Mallooru. Melkar Traffic police are investigating the incident.

According to Chaitra’s family, she had been engaged, with the marriage scheduled for March next year.

Drug consumption led to accident?

Locals alleged that the driver was under the influence of Ganja and this caused the accident. The victim’s family has mentioned this in the complaint and the police are investigating the matter.
