Baradwaj Rangan to talk at Nitte International Film Festival

Mangaluru: The third edition of Nitte International Film Festival, presented by Nitte (Deemed-to-be) University from April 8-11, will feature talks and discussions with acclaimed film makers and film critics. These sessions, which will be held at the festival venue of Bharath Cinemas in Bharath Mall, are free and open to the public.

National award winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan will speak on The Art and Craft of Film Reviews on April 8 at 7:00 p.m. He will also feature in a panel discussion on film criticism with film critics Sowmya Rajendran and Roshan Nair. The discussion, scheduled for April 9 at 8:15 p.m., will be moderated by film maker Aijaz Khan.

In addition to this, National award winning film critic Manu Chakravarthy will be in conversation with the acclaimed film maker P Sheshadri, who has directed eight National Award winning films. Their session on ‘Film as Text: Understanding the Writings of ShivaramKaranth through Cinema’ will take place at 5:15 p.m. on April 8.

Manu Chakravarthy will also be in conversation with Marathi film maker Sumitra Bhave, who has directed several National award winning films, on April 11 at 9:00 p.m, following the screening of her latest film, Dithee.

This is one of more than 70 films that will be screened at the festival across several languages. NIFF 2019, which opens with Sheshadri’s latest film, MookajjiyaKanasugalu,will also play Ee. Ma. Yu. (Malayalam), Kaala (Tamil), Paddayi (Tulu), October (Hindi), Tumbbad (Hindi), Redu (Marathi), Dithee (Marathi), SarkariHiriyaPrathamika Shale – Kasargod(Kannada), Abyakto (Bengali). The festival’s closing film is Kumbalangi Nights (Malayalam).

The festival will alsohost film personalities such as Rishab Shetty, Vaidehi, VeenaBakshi, AbhayaSimha, Anjali Patil, JayaprakashRadhakrishnan, SanchariVijay and PriyaKrishnaswamy. There will be an interactive session with each filmmaker after the screening of their film.

All film-screenings and discussions at the festival are free and open to the public on a first come, first serve basis.The schedule is available on NIFF’s facebook page.
