Barber sentenced to life for colleague’s murder

Mangaluru: A barber has been sentenced to life for murdering his co-worker by the 3rd Additional District and Sessions judge B. Muralidhara Pai on Friday October 12th.  The convict has been identified as Pradeep Kumar (31) and has been sentenced for murdering Rudramani (26) on December 31st 2016.

Incident synopsis

As per the chargesheet, Pradeep Kumar, a native of Shikaripur and Rudramuni, a native of Ballari district, were working in Mamata Men’s Beauty Parlour in Sangathi complex in Kutthar. The two also lived in a room of the parlour owner Ramesh K. on the third floor of the same complex.

Kumar used to have frequent fights with Rudramuni over the latter talking to a girl he was interested in. On the night of December 31st, Kumar fought with Rudramuni in the presence of two fellow employees of the parlour.

Though the two were pacified and separated by the rest, Kumar suddenly took a knife and stabbed Rudramuni on his chest. The injured Rudramiani was rushed to Yenepoya Hospital in Deralakatte where he succumbed to his injuries.

The accused Kumar was arrested by the Ullal police based on the complaint of Ramesh and later a chargesheet was filed accusing Kumar of the offence under Section 302 IPC.

The case

The prosecutor Narayan Sherigar examined before the court 22 witnesses, including parlour owner Ramesh. The witnesses questioned also included forensic expert Vijayalakshmi, who had examined the blood stains of the deceased on the t-shirt and shorts worn by Kumar. Venkatrakrishna Shenoy, who did the autopsy of Rudramuni, was also examined.

On Friday, the Judge sentenced Kumar to life and imposed fine of ₹1,000 and also directed District Legal Services Authority to consider recommending compensation to parents of Rudramuni under Section 357 (A) of the Cr.PC.
