Batla House encounter case: Court awards death penalty to Ariz Khan for Inspector’s killing

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday awarded the death penalty to convict Ariz Khan, allegedly associated with the terror outfit Indian Mujahideen, for the murder of Delhi police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma and other offences in connection with the 2008 Batla House encounter.
The court called the case as ‘rarest of rare case’.
The Encounter:
The Delhi police had conducted raid at Batla House after intel inputs that terrorists were hiding there in the aftermath of the 2008 Delhi serial blasts that had killed 30 people. Two suspected terrorists, identified as Atif Amin and Mohammed Sajid, were killed in the Batla House encounter. Inspector Sharma of the Special Cell of Delhi was killed after receiving a gunshot during the encounter.
Ariz was among three suspected terrorists who fled the spot and was later declared proclaimed offender.
He was arrested on February14, 2018 and faced the trial.
