BBMP puts down political boards, banners

Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) began evacuating flex boards and flags of every single political party on Tuesday not long after the dates for the Karnataka Assembly elections were declared. 

BBMP Commissioner and District Election Officer N Manjunath Prasad guaranteed to evacuate all flex boards and flags within 24 hours. Indeed, even government ads on BMTC transports, open hoardings and transport shelters were brought down. 

Photographs of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Bengaluru Development and Minister K J George and Mayor R Sampath Raj were brought down from the BBMP’s site by night. 

“On the off chance that any candidates needs to put promotions on TV, he/she should take approval from the Media Certification Committee,” Prasad said. The panel is an inside body headed by the District Election Officer. 

Prasad, nonetheless, elucidated that Indira Gandhi’s photographs would not be removed from Indira Canteens. The evacuation of flex boards will be completed by Wednesday.

The BBMP began the action soon after the poll dates were announced. Until Monday, flex banners and advertisement hoardings kept invading the city space more rapidly which annoyed the citizens.

Other than being a blemish, promotion shows mushrooming on asphalts, tree-tops, street dividers and streetlights additionally remain a peril pedestrians and motorists.

The BBMP, which is approved to expel the unlawful promotion shows, is turning a visually impaired eye to the threat on account of weight from its political managers. The city body has turned into the objective of the netizens’ rage as the online crusade #FlexPoliticsBeda accumulates force. 

On March 1,  the high court directed the BBMP to file specific affidavits with details on action taken and plans to effectively execute the Karnataka Open Spaces (counteractive action of distortion) Act 1981.
