Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has received the Earth Day Network’s ‘Star Municipal Award’ for rejuvenating 18 lakes in the city and initiating work on seven more.
Earth Day Network’s Neela Majumdar said the theme of this year’s award was ‘Restore Our Earth’.
The award was handed over to BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta. The civic body was nominated by the Puttenahalli Neighbourhood Lake Improvement Trust.
Usha Rajagopal from PNLIT said that the trust’s partnership with the BBMP began in 2009. “Our partnership has been fruitful and we were happy to nominate BBMP for the award,” she said.
