Guwahati: Astonishing visuals flashed on television sets on Sunday from the Barasapara Stadium. Groundskeepers were seen using steam irons, hairdryers and vacuum cleaners to dry damp patches on the pitch after a small spell of rain.
The first T20I match between India and Sri Lanka was delayed right after the toss as it started to rain. The covers used were leaky and had caused water to drip into the pitch.
Initially, vacuum cleaners and a roller were used to dry the pitch but the umpires found it unsatisfactory. That’s when the ground staff were seen bringing out hairdryers and steam iron to heat out the dampness.
Tweets started to make fun and trolls of the condition of the stadium and the use of these instruments. Some alleged how is it that the world’s richest cricket board (BCCI) could not provide for proper covers at its stadiums.
