Udupi: Udupi Deputy Commissioner M. Kurma Rao on Wednesday urged people to be vigilant and take precautions against Covid-19.

He was speaking during the District Covid Precautionary and Technical Advisory Committee meeting held at the District Collector’s Office on Wednesday.

He said that it was important to follow protocols like wearing masks and washing hands.

Kurma Rao said, “Covid-19 is increasing in many countries of the world, so we have to take more precautions like wearing masks and hand washing. Also, those eligible for precautionary doses of the Covid-19 vaccine should get it as soon as possible.”

He directed the officials to organize vaccination camps every Wednesday in taluk centers and primary health centers.

“Those with respiratory problems and symptoms of Covid-19 infection should voluntarily get tested and based on the results, follow the covid-19 protocols. Positive samples should be sent for genome sequencing. District hospital and medical college hospitals must allot isolation beds for Covid patients. It should be assured that ventilators and oxygen supply devices at government hospitals are in good working order, he added.

Rao further urged the public to wear masks indoors and in places like pubs, bars, restaurants, cinema halls, offices, buses, trains etc.

The 24-hour helpline numbers 9663950222 and 9663957222 are in service to provide treatment to covid patients along with consultation via telemedicine, he said.
