Bears pursue and attack panchayat member
Yellapur: Two bears attacked a village panchayat member while riding a bike in Upaleshwar Huthkanda of Chandguli on Saturday morning, December 21.
The injured was identified as RS Bhat, a member of the Chandguli Panchayat and president of P.L.D. Bank.
He was riding near a waste disposal unit on the Mayanajaddi Road when the bears attacked and injured his legs.
Despite managing to escape the initial attack, the bears pursued him and attacked again, leaving severe injuries on his face, neck, shoulder, and thighs.
He managed to take refuge in a nearby house and was later rushed to a nearby government hospital. He was transferred to a private hospital in Hubballi for further care.
Local MLA Shivaram Hebbar visited the hospital to inquire about his condition.
The presence of bears and leopards in the area even during the day, caused fear among locals and raised serious safety concerns.
Farmers’ associations, including the Indian Kisan Sangh, are urging authorities to take immediate action to address the growing wildlife threat.
