Mangaluru: Following the Department of Public Instruction consent for including Beary language in school curriculum, Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy (KBSA) Chairman Rahim Ucchil urged schools from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts willing to teach Beary as an optional third language subject to contact Beary Academy before March 14.
Over 30 schools from the two districts have expressed eagerness to include Beary language in their school curriculum, he told reporters here on Tuesday.
“The preparation of the textbook is underway and should be ready in a months time. The script will be in Kannada,” the Academy Chairman said.
The Department of Public Instruction had given consent to teach Beary language as an optional third language subject in schools, from class VI onwards.
Rahim Ucchil further informed that the Academy office will be temporarily shifted to ‘Samarthya Soudha’, near University College soon. “The state government has sanctioned Rs 6 crore for construction of Beary Bhavan. We have submitted a proposal to identify a new site for construction of Beary Bhavan. The site identified by previous governments at Neeramarga has not been accepted by the Academy,” he said.
Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy Registrar Poornima was present.
