A dispute over a bill between a group of young men escalated into violence when a BSF soldier stabbed one of the youths at Aayi Hotel on APMC Road in Belagavi on Monday (September 30).
The accused, identified as Parusharam Ramgondnavar from Rukmini Nagar and a BSF soldier, was arrested by the police and remanded to judicial custody. The victim, Altaf Chougala from Ganjwad, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
The incident began when four youths from Ganjwad got into an argument with the hotel owner over their bill. The argument intensified and went on for a long time.
Parusharam, who was dining nearby, got involved in the altercation. A verbal exchange followed, and in a fit of rage, Parusharam, angered by the youths’ insults, stabbed Altaf with a knife he had on him.
Altaf, who suffered severe bleeding, was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The accused soldier, Parusharam, is currently stationed in Nagaland and was on a 15-day leave in Belagavi.
Police also revealed that he was involved in a brawl at a Belagavi bar two years ago and has now been jailed in connection with the stabbing incident.
A case has been registered at the APMC police station.
