Belagavi: Five arrested for impersonating police, extortion

Belagavi: Five persons have been arrested for impersonating police and extorting a huge sum from an individual.

The arrested accused have been identified as Zakir Hussain Qutbuddin Maniyar (42), Basavaraja Gurappa Patil (32), Sarvesha Mohan Tudvekar (38), Shahabuddin T (41) and Naeem Mohammadshafi Mulla (30)

Police said the accused have been arrested based on a complaint by Ataullah M H of Ramtheertha Nagar. According to the complaint, the accused, posing as police, waylaid the car of the victim and accused him of transporting ganja. They also extorted Rs 4.79 lakh from him.

Police said they have seized Rs 70,000 in cash, an Indica car, and fake press ID cards.
