The incident took place in Belagavi’s Khanapur town. Acting on the complaint filed by the bride’s family, police arrested the accused identified as Sachin Patil. He has been sent to the Hindalga Prison.

Police said that the bride’s family had consented to give 50 grams of gold and Rs 1 lakh cash to the bridegroom.

The marriage was arranged at the Lokamanya Choultry and all arrangements for the ceremony were made. However, as the marriage date came closer, the family of the groom demanded 100 grams of gold and Rs 10 lakh cash.

When the family of the bride refused to meet their fresh demand, Sachin Patil refused the marriage.
