Belagavi: Kannada flag defiled in Kolhapur, Maharastra

Belagavi: The acts of disrespecting the Kannada flag continued in the Maharastra-Karnataka Border districts. Some Congress activists in Kolhapur defiled the Kannada flag by smearing it with black ink, walking a dog over it, and later burning it down during a protest. The deplorable move has invited sharp criticisms from the Kannadigas.

The incident happened at Mirajkar Tikti in neighboring Kohlapur city on Sunday.  A symbol of Kannada is being disrespected as a  protest against the desecration of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Statue, a symbol of Maratha valor, in Bengaluru a few days ago.

The situation in the border district is tense due to the repeated insults to symbols of Karnataka. On Saturday miscreants uprooted a statue of Sangolli Rayanna in Belagavi, while in Maharashtra Shiv Sena and Congress workers burnt the Kannada flag.

The repeated retaliatory activities are further inflaming the tensions on both sides.
