Belagavi: An Omni van which was parked next to the street close Channamma Circle all of a sudden burst into flames on Thursday morning. Traffic was stopped at the busy circle and it was diverted till the fire was doused and traffic signals were closed down.

Police said Parashuram Kagalkar from Kolhapur with others was going to the District Hospital to see his ill relative along with five other relatives in his Omni Van. At the point when the vehicle drew close to Channamma Circle its motor halted and when attempts were being made to restart it, smoke started to radiate from the back segment of the van. Kagalkar and five others instantly got out of the van and it caught fire panicking the passersby and others driving in the busy streets. Traffic Police close to the Channamma Circle instantly diverted traffic movement as safety measures and closed down the signals.

The fire and emergency service personnel arrived at the spot and doused the fire. The cause of the fire is said to be the leakage of gas from the cylinder which was used as fuel for the vehicle.
