Belgaum: Farmer’s son passes civil services exam

Belgaum: Praful Desai, son of a farmer from Yarnal village in Hukkeri taluk, who studied in Kannada medium school, has made passed the Civil Services Examination ranking 532.

Praful attempted the examinations twice earlier and succeeded in his third attempt.

An engineering graduate, Praful is an Assistant Engineer in the Water Resources Department and was appointed to the post only last year.

Praful’s father Kempanna is a farmer and mother Mangala, a housewife. His sister Tejaswini is working as the SDA in Gokak court.

Praful has been preparing for the Civil Services examination since 2017. He practised from 9 am to 12 pm and after becoming Assistant Engineer, he read 6 to 8 hours a day.

Praful studied AL Koti School in Badakundri till class 4, Yamakanamarady School till class 7 and finished high school in a school at Yaragatti. He did his PUC in the Science stream at the SBBS College at Sankeshwar. He then completed BE (Mechanical) in BVB Engineering College, Hubli. He also went to the Sriram IAS Coaching Center in Delhi.

“I had dreamed of becoming an IAS officer from the beginning. As a child, I was inspired by Shalini Rajneesh, who was then the Deputy Commissioner of Belgaum District. When I saw the interviews many IAS officers, I thought that I should too pass this examination, says Praful.

‘I covered his studies with my four-acre farm’s income. He scoring high in school too. He was aiming to be an IAS after completing BE. He was motivated by IAF officers achievements, says Praful’s father Kempanna Desai.

There was a desire for radical changes in agriculture and education. This field is not new for me as I was already working in the administrative system. I will utilize this opportunity to work for the betterment of society, said Praful Desai.
