Belthangady: Ambulance accident at Vogga – Woman patient dies, toll rises to 2

Belthangady: The patient being ferried in the ambulance that met with an accident died, raising the death toll in the tragedy.
The deceased has been identified as Mariyamma (80), a resident of Aladangady-Sunkadakatte.
Mariyamma had been rushed to a private hospital in Guruvayanakere with complaints of chest discomfort on Friday, August 18. After examination, Doctors at the hospital referred her to a hospital in Mangaluru for advanced treatment. An ambulance was hired to rush her there.
The ambulance overturned at Hanchikatte near Vagga here while transporting her to a hospital in Mangaluru. The driver of the ambulance, Shabir, had died at a hospital in Thumbe due to serious injuries.
Mariyamma, who had heart ailments, had suffered head injuries in the accident. She breathed her last at the KMC hospital where she was being treated.
Her son, Razak, who was also in the ambulance sustained injuries in the accident.
