A complaint has been lodged at the Venur police station alleging that a man from Karambaru village allegedly constructed a house on government land, falsely claiming ownership and duping a contractor in the process.

Krishna Shetty (33), a contractor residing in Barnanthal house, Nallur village, Karkala taluk, complained to the police that Suresh Poojary and his brother Prashant Poojary, residents of ‘Oora Mane’ in Karambaru village deceived him and issued death threats.

According to the complaint, Suresh Poojary, purported ownership of a leveled government land spanning 40.41 acres in Survey No. 138-1. He presented purported land conversion and panchayat licenses to support his claim. Under the guise of ownership, Poojary engaged Shetty to construct a house on the disputed land, the complaint added.

Shetty, in his complaint, alleged that Poojary failed to fulfill his financial obligations to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore towards the construction project. He allegedly cited a pending bank loan as the reason for withholding payment. Upon enquiring at the bank, it was revealed that Poojary’s claim of securing a bank loan for the construction was unfounded, raising suspicions regarding the legitimacy of the entire transaction.

Furthermore, documents presented to the Belthangadi tehsildar purportedly contained false information regarding the construction of the house, including the income of the laborer and the year of construction, the complaint adds.

Shetty also reported receiving threats from Prashant Poojary via WhatsApp, when asked for payment.

A case has been registered and an investigation is currently underway, police said.
