Belthangady: An incident where a man killed his wife in an inebriated state on the night of Thursday, January 7 has been reported from Neriya village in the taluk here.

Soumya Francis (40) and her husband Johnson (47), natives of Irutti in Kerala, own a parcel of land at Neriya and work as rubber tappers. Both husband and wife reportedly quarrelled every day.

At around 11 pm on Thursday night, the couple’s scuffle escalated and Johnson attacked Soumya with a wooden log.

Johnson immediately rushed an injured Soumya to a private hospital with help from local residents. She died en route to Mangaluru for further treatment.

The couple has a 10-year-old daughter.

Johnson was detained after a complaint registered by Soumya’s brother Sanoj Francis at Dharmasthala police station.
