In a chain-snatching incident near Koyyur, Belthangady taluk, police have arrested Umesh Gowda (38), son of Koragappa Gowda from Girigudde in Dembuga.
The victim Rajeevi (50), wife of Damodar Bhat from Koyyur village, had alighted from a bus near Pambelu and was walking towards her home around 2:35 PM when the accused reportedly followed her and pulled her 32-gram gold chain.
Rajeevi held onto the chain tightly, causing it to break. The accused fled with a portion of the chain into a nearby government forest. The police and locals launched a search operation to nab the accused.
A team of police under the leadership of Belthangady Circle Inspector Nagesh Kadri tracked the accused and arrested him at his residence early on December 10.
