Belthangady: National level volleyball player dies of heart attack

Belthangady: A 24-year-old National level volleyball player died of a heart attack on Wednesday, May 31.
The deceased has been identified as Saliyat (24), an Alumni S.D.M. college Ujire.
Saliyat, a native of Padangadi Poyegudde, currently married for one year was staying at her husband’s home in Chikkamagaluru. She was admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru after she complained of chest pain and died on Wednesday.
The doctors treating her confirmed that she died due to a heart attack.
Saliyat, who completed her 9th standard at Padangadi Primary and 10th standard at Mundaje aided high school, exhibited exceptional sports skills while pursuing her graduation and post-graduation education at Ujire SDM. Under the guidance of her mentor Haider Padangadi, she honed her volleyball skills and excelled in the game.
During her secondary education at Mundaje Educational Institution, Saliyat received valuable training from Gunapal M.S., a dedicated physical education teacher. Her talent in volleyball was on full display, and she played a significant role in securing second place for the Karnataka state team in the national-level volleyball tournament held in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Continuing her education at S.D.M. College in Ujire, Saliyat gained recognition as an outstanding volleyball player representing the state of Karnataka. This remarkable achievement was made possible by the unwavering support and hard work of her coach, Ramesh, the Physical Education Director at Ujire S.D.M.
Saliyat’s extraordinary journey in the sport led to numerous accolades, including a silver medal in national volleyball, a gold medal in the senior national south zone competition, and a commendable third-place finish in the junior national tournament. Dr. Virendra Heggade, the President of SDM Educational Institutions and Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, had expressed his appreciation for her remarkable accomplishments.
She is survived by her father, mother, and husband.
