Belthangady: A teenage boy drowned in the Somavathi rivulet here on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Samarth (16), a first-year PU student at a private college here. Reports said that he was a native of Chikkamagaluru.

It is gathered that Samarth along with a group of students had been to the rivulet for a bath when the tragedy struck. Even though the boys raised alarm and tried to save him from drowning, it was all in vain.

The mortal remains were later fished out by the locals.
