Belthangady: Altogether 207 beneficiaries of 15 villages affected by the floods in the taluk were provided with the relief cheque and food items by local MLA Harish Punja on Wednesday.
The MLA and Tahsildar Ganapati Shastri visited the gruel centres and distributed the cheques. Rs 10,000 has been released for every single affected household, and only Rs 3,800 is being provided in the form of cheques to the beneficiaries through the first phase of distribution.
The gruel centres at Laila, Navuru, Indabettu, Mittabagilu and Malavantige, Mundaje, Charmadi and Chibudre, Neriya and Kadiru Dyavara were visited and the cheques were distributed there.
After distributing the cheques as well as food items at the gruel centre at Killur school the MLA said that this was the first taluk in the state wherein the relief was being distributed.
On the spot cash!
Although the cheques have been given to the beneficiaries, they are not in the state to visit a bank and get the cheque encashed. Hence the facility has been provided on the spot to get the cheque encashed. This action has been undertaken by the bank staffs.
