Belthangady: Rockfall occurs again at Gadaikal

Belthangady: Rockfalls were again reported at the Gadaikal and Narasimhagad areas at the Kudremukh National Park in the taluk here on Saturday.

The impact of the rockfall created a huge explosive sound heard by residents in villages far away from the impact site.

A huge cloud of dust was also raised by the impact.

A lateral rock portion had fallen off the hill on May 2 and also in 2019.

“Continous rainfall over the past week made the rainwater seep into cracks in the hill’s rocks causing the crack to develop further and break apart. No big accident has occurred and the locals need not worry about anything,” said Zonal Forest Officer Smitha.
