Belthangady: A woman on a scooter was seriously injured after being hit by a car at Kanyadi here on Sunday.
The injured has been identified as Sriraksha Kini (22), wife of Ameya Bhat who is a priest at a temple in Belthangady.
Sriraksha was reportedly returning to Belthangady on her scooter after visiting her mother’s house in Kanyadi when the accident occurred.
An oncoming car, having Government of Karnataka stickers and driven by Ramesh, rammed into the scooter and then another car driven by Satish Shetty. The scooter was split into two pieces due to the impact.
Locals rushed the injured scooter rider to a private hospital in Ujire before being referred to a hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment.
Based on the complaint filed by Satish Shetty, Belthangady traffic police have begun an investigation.
Government car misused?
The car involved in the accident has a Bangaluru registration and reportedly belongs to the Public Works Department. It is said that the car had two occupants in the car – the driver and another person. No official was reportedly present in the car when the accident occurred.
According to the rules, a government vehicle cannot be used for purposes other than departmental work, and permission of senior officials is required if the vehicle is to be taken outside the specified area. There was a buzz on social media about the purported misuse of government property for personal use. However, only a thorough investigation can confirm the allegations.
