Belthangady: Snapped power lines kill motorist

Belthangady: In a gruesome accident, a man riding a scooter was strangled to death by broken power lines near Hedya Society on January 6.

Raghu, a resident of Koyyur, is the unfortunate victim.

Earlier, a pick-up truck had hit an electric pole, snapping several others in half. The power lines were hanging low, as a result, sources said.

Raghu, who worked at Hotel Manjunath near Ujire College, was returning from Didupe on his scooter at around 11 pm. As it was dark, the power lines were not visible. One of the low-hanging lines strangled the victim’s neck, killing him on the spot, sources said.

Whether the lines were offline or not at the time of the accident was not immediately clear. the accident occurred within Belthgady police station limits
