Bengaluru: Karnataka’s Health Minister, Dinesh Gundu Rao, confirmed that 25 people in Bengaluru, who were in contact with a student who died of Nipah infection in Kerala, have been identified.
The deceased student was studying in the Psychology department at a medical college in Bengaluru. He had returned to Kerala due to a leg injury and succumbed to Nipah on September 8. Fifteen students from Bengaluru attended his funeral, with some returning to the city while others remained in Kerala. The health department is currently tracking down all details regarding these individuals.
None of the primary contacts of the deceased have shown symptoms of the virus so far. However, there is no need for panic. The state’s surveillance team has been alerted, and individuals arriving from Kerala are being monitored through phone calls. Authorities have confirmed that none of the contacted individuals have shown symptoms. Health officials will visit their homes in the next two days for a thorough health examination, said the minister.
Officials’ Meeting Today
A precautionary meeting with health department officials is scheduled for Tuesday to discuss preventive measures against Nipah.
