Bengaluru Airport: Customs officials seize iPhones, gold and e-cigarettes

Devanahalli: In a massive haul, Bengaluru Customs officials at the Kempegowda International Airport on Saturday seized e-cigarettes of foreign origin, mobile phones, and gold, which were being illegally smuggled into the country.
A passenger, who had arrived at Bengaluru from Bangkok, has been arrested for allegedly smuggling 16 iPhone 14 phones and a case has been registered against him.
In another case, three passengers, who had come to Bengaluru from Dubai, were illegally transporting gold weighing 729 grams, valued at Rs 36.97 lakh. E-cigarettes worth Rs 22.16 lakh have also been seized and a case has been registered.
In another case, 7 smaller gold bars totally weighing 409 grams were seized from a man who had come to Bengaluru from Mumbai city. The accused was trying to smuggle the gold by placing it under the seat of the aircraft. The value of the seized gold is also estimated to be around Rs 17 lakh and a case has been registered against him and an investigation is underway.
