Bengaluru-based Engineer cheated of Rs 16 lakh in dating app fraud

Bengaluru: A Bengaluru-based engineer lost Rs 16 lakh to scammers after registering on a dating app.
The victim has been identified as Manoj, a resident of Hongasandra.
On June 1, Manoj registered himself on a dating app and within a few minutes, he received a call from a man named Vikram who asked him to deposit Rs 5,000 as registration fees.
Later, the fraudsters began asking for more money claiming it to be Client information fees, security fees, etc. Manoj paid around Rs 16 lakh to them.
He was told that the money would be refunded to him soon after the registration process is complete.
Realizing that he was getting cheated, Manoj finally approached the police recently.
A case has been registered.
