Bengaluru: Due to the COVID-19 crisis in the city, it is opined that the elections to the city’s local body – Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) – will certainly be postponed.
Mayor M Gautam Kumar’s term was supposed to end in September. The elections to the Palike should have been conducted before the end of August.
There was also the issue of delimitation of the city’s wards. High Court had ordered the BBMP to conduct the delimitation and the elections in the original stipulated schedule.
However, due to the rise in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the city, many wards are under complete sealdown. Only after life returns to normal in the city can the delimitation process be conducted.
The delimitation process includes changing the wards’ boundaries according to the 2011 census and providing 15 days for the general public to object to the results of the delimitation.
