Bengaluru: A case has been registered after a 47-year-old man died after he fell into a pit on Hesaraghatta Main Road dug up for work by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).

The deceased has been identified as S Anandappa (47), a resident of Mallasandra in T Dasarahalli. He was coming from 8th Mile, Peenya and was heading towards Bagalgunte.

The deceased’s wife alleged that no proper warning signboards were placed near the dug up portion of the road. A video of the incident has surfaced online.

BWSSB Chairman N Jayaram confirmed that the road was dug up by BWSSB to complete the laying of a water pipeline under the Cauvery 5th stage. He said, “Barricading was done and despite that, an accident has taken place. The police are investigating.”

The traffic police have registered an FIR against the BWSSB contractor concerned and others.
