Bengaluru braces for heavy rains: DCM Shivakumar issues urgent directives
PTI, Jun 3, 2024, 7:37 PM IST
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has issued a high-alert directive to officials following the India Meteorology Department’s forecast of heavy rains in Bengaluru over the next 24 hours.
On Sunday night, torrential rains uprooted trees and caused significant damage across the city, although no casualties were reported. Shivakumar convened a meeting with officials to assess the situation and laid out an action plan.
Officials were ordered to evacuate residents from old, dilapidated buildings and work alongside the NDRF and SDRF teams to prevent any mishaps. Despite their election duties, prompt action was taken to clear roads and restore 261 fallen electricity poles.
