Bengaluru: A Bengaluru-based businessman has been taken into custody for faking a robbery and filing a false police complaint.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mularam (37), proprietor of Metro Shoe Agency in Manavarthipet.
It is said that Mularam wanted to take possession of Rs 10 lakh that belonged to a man named Ramesh.
Ramesh used to provide financial assistance to Rajasthanis starting businesses. Businessmen returned the money in installments.
On Ramesh’s behalf, Mularam used to collect money from various retailers and deliver it to the latter. On January 13, Mularam collected almost Rs 10 lakh from 10 store owners.
Later, he filed a complaint, alleging that a group of four posing as Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials had stopped him near Sirsi Circle and had taken the money by stabbing his hands.
However, it was later discovered that he had faked the robbery and that he had hidden the money in his warehouse. Cops have written to the court to ask for permission to file a case against Mularam for filing a false report.
