Bengaluru: Cab driver held for alleged rape of woman passenger

Bengaluru: Jeevan Bima Nagar Police on Wednesday arrested a cab driver for allegedly raping a woman passenger.
The incident is said to have occurred between 3.30 am to 4 am in Murugeshpalya here. In her complaint, the woman said that she had booked a cab to return home after attending a party at her friend’s house. The cabbie, she claimed sexually assaulted her near her residence.
Acting on her complaint the police immediately formed three teams and nabbed Devarajulu, a native of Andhra Pradesh within hours of the incident.
S.Murugan, Additional Commissioner of Police said the police have registered a case of rape and necessary action will be taken based on the investigation.
Devarajulu has however denied the charges against him and claimed innocence.
The police are investigating the case to determine if there was an altercation between the victim and the driver regarding payment of the trip and have collected CCTV footage of the vicinity.
Meanwhile, the victim has been taken to Bowring hospital for medical examination and the accused will also be subject to tests.
