Bengaluru: A delegation of representatives from the Christian community appealed the Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai not to enact and enforce the proposed anti-conversion law.

The delegation headed by prominent businessman and philanthropist Ronald Colaco met the Chief Minister at his official residence at Race Course Road here on Friday. Former Legislative Council member Ivan D’souza and Congress leader Radhakrishna also accompanied the delegation.

It was reported that a stringent anti-conversion bill was all set to be introduced during the winter session of the Vidhana Sabha that starts from December 13.

Pointing out the problems faced by the minority community in the state, the delegation petitioned the government to take action against the attacks on the churches in the state.

“Over the last ten years, the ratio of the Christian population has declined. Yet, the community is being falsely blamed for indulging in forceful religious conversions.  We condemn such a wrongful portrayal of the Christian community. We have urged the CM to allow us to live honorably in society,” Colaco told reporters after the meeting.

After listening to the plea, the CM promised to fix the issue, he added.
