Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah questioned the necessity of Pejawar Swamiji’s recent remarks on the Constitution, accusing him of being a proponent of the Manusmriti.

Speaking at the KPCC office during Constitution Day celebrations, Siddaramaiah emphasized, “Discrimination based on caste and social hierarchy is unacceptable. The Manusmriti endorses such discrimination, and those propagating it are affiliated with organizations like the RSS and BJP.”

He further criticized individuals opposing the Constitution, stating, “Only those against the Constitution speak of changing it. Pejawar Swamiji recently spoke about amending the Constitution. Why was it necessary for him to make such a statement? He seems to support the Manusmriti’s ideals.”

Siddaramaiah reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the Constitution, contrasting this with what he described as divisive ideologies.

The controversy stems from a recent appeal by Pejawar Swamiji to the Governor, advocating for the establishment of a Sanatana Mandali in response to disputes involving Waqf Board properties. The Swamiji called for constitutional reforms to ensure justice and uphold dignity, a statement that has since sparked widespread debate.
