Bengaluru: Crackers cause spike in eye injuries; Over 200 cases in 3 days

Bengaluru: The Deepavali season has seen a sharp rise in eye injuries due to firecrackers, with the number of affected individuals reaching 200 in the last three days. Among them, 30 sustained serious injuries, and several are at risk of losing vision.

City’s hospitals, including Minto, Narayana Nethralaya, and Shankar Eye Hospital, have admitted numerous cases. Narayana Nethralaya reported 73 cases, Minto 54, Shankar 18, with another 55 cases recorded across other hospitals. Many of these patients required surgery, with concerns about permanent vision loss in some cases.

Minto Hospital has treated 54 patients so far, of whom 32 are children. Among these, 23 individuals sustained severe injuries, 31 suffered minor injuries, and 4 underwent surgery. While 30 were injured while bursting crackers, 24 were hurt due to crackers set off by nearby people.

Additionally, over 146 individuals have received treatment at Narayana Nethralaya, Shankar Eye Hospital, Manjunath, Vinayak, Argawal, and Vasan Eye Care.
