A housewife fell victim to cyber thieves who executed a scam, resulting in the loss of Rs 3.30 lakh. The unfortunate target of this fraudulent scheme was Ambika (37), a resident of Amrithalli.
The incident unfolded on September 12 when Ambika’s WhatsApp number received a seemingly official message from an unfamiliar sender, warning her that her bank account would soon be suspended. The message urged her to click on a provided link for further information. Assuming the message was genuinely from her bank, Ambika clicked on the link.
However, soon after a sum of Rs 3.30 lakh was swiftly siphoned from her bank account by the cyber thieves. Alarmed by the unexplained deduction, Ambika promptly contacted her bank’s staff to seek clarification.
It was then revealed that she was a victim of a scam. A case has been registered.
