Bengaluru: Two fraudsters, preying on vulnerable individuals including widows, housewives, and unemployed youths with promises of lucrative government jobs, have been apprehended by the CEN police station of Bengaluru North Division.

The suspects, identified as Deepak (22) from Srinagara and Harish (21) from Vidyaranyapura, stand accused of duping approximately 60 people out of an estimated Rs 15 lakhs under the guise of facilitating employment opportunities at the BBMP head office and various government institutions.

Their victim, a woman who aspired to work as a computer operator at the BBMP head office, was swindled of Rs 8,000,  City Police Commissioner B Dayanand told the presspersons on Tuesday.

Interrogation of the suspects revealed a pattern of deception, with an estimated sum of Rs 15 lakhs fraudulently obtained from their victims. No formal complaints have been lodged by those affected, Dayanand said.

“The accused have received formal education till SSLC and are unemployed. They exploited rumors of job scams to perpetrate their crimes,” stated the commissioner. “They enticed victims by promising employment opportunities at government offices and lured them with false assurances of financial aid for widows and youths.”

The modus operandi involved deceiving unsuspecting individuals seeking employment, government pensions or financial assistance, the police commissioner added.
