An owner of a bar in Hennur has lodged a police complaint accusing his employee of defrauding him of Rs 14 lakh by showing empty liquor bottles as actual stocks.
The accused Kantharaj M, a resident of Hennur worked as a cashier at the bar. He has gone absconding following the police complaint.
The complainant Somashekar, owner of New Karavali Bar and Restaurant in Hennur said that the bar business was running in a loss. Meanwhile, whenever he asked to check the accounts and stock details, Kantharaj would show him boxes of liquor stock piled up at the store.
Somashekar grew suspicious of Kantharaj and on April 11 he asked to check the stock. He was shocked to find that Kantharaj had stocked up empty bottles of beer, whisky, brandy, and wine in the corrugated boxes while claiming it to be actual stock.
Upon confrontation, Kantharaj confessed to the crime and said that he had pocketed nearly Rs 10.7 lakh and Rs 3.38 lakh on two occasions by cheating Somashekar.
The Hennur police have launched a hunt for the absconding accused.
